Eric carle Google Doodle
This conceptual Google Doodle is a tribute to Eric Carle, American children’s book author and illustrator. He’s most well known for being the creator of The Hungry Hungry Caterpillar, one of the 70 plus children’s picture books he’s created. His unique style and bold use of shapes, texture and color make his work instantly recognizable. Carle was born June 25th 1929 and died May 23 of 2021.
This piece was made combining his methods of texture-making with digital puppet animation to bring it to life, showing Carle himself in the colorful lab-coat he wore when working, happily creating alongside various foods in the style of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the titular caterpillar himself.
This animation is featured in the 2025 Society of Illustrators Student show, both online and in person at their headquarters.
