Eric carle Google Doodle
This animation was featured in the 2025 Society of Illustrators Student Show, which can be found archivally online.
This conceptual Google Doodle is a tribute to Eric Carle, American children’s book author and illustrator. He’s most well known for being the creator of The Hungry Hungry Caterpillar, one of the 70 plus children’s picture books he’s created. His unique style and bold use of shapes, texture and color make his work instantly recognizable. Carle was born June 25th 1929 and died May 23 2021.
This piece was made by combining Carle’s traditional methods of texture-making with digital puppet animation to bring it to life. Carle himself, in the colorful lab-coat he wore when working, happily creates alongside various foods in the style of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, one of which sports the titular caterpillar himself.
